My WHY.

All the things:

The guy who set up a fence and handed out baby goats, for the baby-goat party is a favorite memory. The odd things people hire for- like the people I hired to help with my mom’s memorial service or the balloon-animal-blowing clown, are “outside the box”. Things a teenager or freelancer are perfect for. People to drive my kids to and from school. Football players to move heavy furniture up and down stairs. Babysitters to watch children, playing outside, during my wedding. A guy to kill my blackberry bushes, once and for all. A friend to get my sink to flow or a girl to help me make my first TikTok. I remember hoping I could find a tutor, maybe a college student, to help my son with some math tutoring, with no luck. A lot of people need a person to drive them to a medical procedure, or help them afterward. After having twins, my mom sent her cleaning lady to help me organize my hallway closet. Because of the fog I was in, (maybe a little depressed, overwhelmed and exhausted), let me tell you….THAT HELPFUL HAND SAVED MY LIFE, (LOL), like a breath of fresh air. (Come to think of it, I should’ve let her hire that guy to wash my windows too. Oh well, the closet was a good start, Love you Mom). I worked at an exclusive golf club in Seattle in my college years-helped create some fun private parties, “on the side”. We brought all of the amenities for the party-goers, catering the celebrating before-and-after the Husky football games. (My favorite part? Petting their dogs🐶). A landlord’s RN girlfriend hired me once- to sit with a man who had cancer. It was funny because we had some nice conversations-but what he REALLY wanted was the cheeseburger and milkshake he asked for each time. I love the mountains and hiking and camping but I respect them as well. So, the older I get, taking my kids overnight backpacking and adventuring will probably involve hiring an outfitter with knowledge and skills beyond mine. Wish there were more options to choose from in this kind of scenario. And then, there’s my neighbor who mentioned a gal, who is sight impaired, who is hoping she will find someone to take her kayaking. I promised her, I am not that person (LOL), but I want to be the person who helps her find them.🤞🏼💙

We all have things. But we’ve learned either not to ask, or that if we do, there’s no one around who’s available.

So we ask our neighbors.

Lately, speaking with the public at work and my kids, neighbors and their friends, it seems there has been a massive disconnect, when It comes to searching for a job. I know people who have been laid off from local refineries, and other jobs, that are a VERY valuable, untapped resource. There is a large amount of younger people who want to work, but just as many homeowners and employers who say they can’t seem to find any workers. Too many people to count, who say they “sent out a hundred resumes and didn’t get a call back”- because the system is broken. People who may be getting screened by an AI agent who threw out their resume, because it didn’t match their criteria.

I want everyone to feel seen and am hoping the opportunities brought about, here, will bring joy and love to individuals hearing or sight impaired or dealing with illness, depression or disabilities, young and old, alike, who feel alone and would benefit from reaching out and becoming a more productive part of their community, reducing feelings of worthlessness, anger, sadness or hopelessness, ONE JOB AT A TIME.

So tell Grandma and Grandpa. They’ll need your help figuring out the app-when they want someone to help with the holiday mess. And a guy to shovel snow and ice this winter. Then there’ll be yard cleanup, again, in the Spring. Oh-and if anyone needs a helper to accompany them to Maui, Italy or, let’s say, the Galapagos, let me know, I’d need to take a few weeks off. 😎

Because we all NeedaNeighbor.com™💛

Best regards.
